The True Cost

So recently I saw a trailer for a documentary entitled "The True Cost".

It's talks about the dark side of fashion. In the documentary, It showed that Dhaka, the chaotic capital of Bangladesh is one of the poorest cities in the world. 70% of their export is making clothing for richer countries. These richer countries take advantage of the lowest paid workers in the world.

On the 24th of April 2013, 1,134 people

were killed and over 2,500 were injured in the Rana Plaza complex that Collapsed. Now the Rana Plaza Complex is one of the factories in Bangladesh that produce and export clothing to other countries. It is considered the deadliest garment-factory accident in history, as well as the deadliest accidental structural failure in modern human history.

Lots of people have risked their lives just so they could earn money and they get paid with so little. The Companies that import their goods can't even support millions of its workers properly, even when they earn so much.

Not only does it cheat on their workers, the factories that make these clothing and textiles do so much harm to our environment. From, emitting hazardous gases to dumping poisonous waste to the our oceans and seas.

That Trailer has really opened my eyes and now, Every time I buy new clothing I have to think it through and ask myself if it is really worth buying.

But since I love Fashion as much as you do, I would suggest that you find alternatives to buying clothes. For example, instead of going out and buying new clothing, you can go to second hand stores or vintage stores. You could also swap clothes with your friend if you'd like.

Just keep in mind, somebody has already paid the price before you did. I'll leave the link below so you could see it for yourself.
